Working Together in Restoring a Marriage

We got married in 2017 but in late 2018,  our marriage was on the rocks after a series of incidents. I had strayed and was considering to abandon my marriage while my wife was grieving over the betrayal. Both of us had no idea what to do.

Rather than tiding it over and leaving things to chance, we decided to seek professional help through marriage counseling.

In February 2019, we approached Joseph Rajagopal of SCC for help. Through undergoing both individual and couple sessions in the succeeding months, Joseph made us realized that in actuality, our marriage wasn’t smooth sailing to begin with. He could clearly unfold the underlying problems that accumulated over the years and these came as a surprise to us. We always thought that we had a strong and steady relationship. That being said, with his very calm and assuring demeanor, he told us that all hope was not lost – as long as both partners had the dedication and commitment to make the marriage work.

Through a series of tests, evaluations, discussions and education over a period of 6 months, Joseph helped us to realize our individual communication and love profiles, along with its strengths and weaknesses and the gaps we needed to address to make our marriage work. Though the sessions may sometimes make you feel uncomfortable and make you go through a roller coaster of emotions, we always walked out of the room feeling more confident and reassured.

We are glad to share that after months of hard work, both of us are still working hard to improve our marriage. While we cannot firmly say this is happily ever after, we definitely feel happier and communicate better. We need to continue to work hard for our marriage. Marriage is definitely not a walk in the park and it requires a lot of hard work and communication, this was one of the key points that we took home from Joseph.

Marriage counselling is no silver bullet to a broken marriage, however, we highly encourage people who are facing issues or feeling lost in their marriage to approach SCC and their counselors with an open mind and heart!

Thank You Note

I’ve laughed and cried in those sessions with you. I was angry and hurt and ashamed, but most importantly, I’ve healed. Thank you for helping me cope with the pain and also how to see things differently.

Powering Up to Face Upcoming Challenges

I may not be 100% there yet, but I certainly feel more empowered to navigate and face upcoming challenges knowing that I am well supported. Thank you Joseph for navigating life challenges with me at my darkest hour.

Finding a Safe Space and Overcoming Unhelpful Thoughts

I came to SCC hoping to find a safe space to share my thoughts and feelings surrounding the difficulties I was experiencing. Rafeah was able to create that safe space for me where I felt comfortable to open up and trust her.

Overcoming a Past Relationship

After the break up, it was even harder to accept reality and how things had turn out leading me to getting disturbed sleep and losing my focus in a lot of things. To be honest, at that moment, crying, feeling helpless, not wanting to accept any help (feeling that I am not even worth helping) and committing suicide was even on my thoughts.

Restoring a Marriage

We had gone from having cold wars and fighting, to being able to have discussion about proper parenting of our daughter and how to address her developmental needs.

Overcoming Anxiety and Depression

I’m happier than I was a couple months ago. I feel less afraid of the constantly-changing world and how I thought I needed to fix everything that was wrong and evil going on all the time, if not I was just wasting my life. I have a lot of gratitude for Rafeah because she sat with me through all of this, and helped guide me towards a lot of insight and revelations about myself.

Looking Forward to Creating The Life I Desire

Now, I have the ability to do things I could never have done previously since my mind is clear without unbearable amounts of repressed grief, anger and extreme feelings of injustice clouding my justice and hampering my ability to focus and prioritize.

[Testimonial] Uncovering Issues and Resolving Them

I felt overwhelmed at first but step by step she guided me through and I overcame my negative thoughts and got rid of toxic people in my life who I previously thought were not affecting me at all.

[Testimonial] Discovering My Own Identity and Understanding Myself

I have gained a better understanding of myself and learned to be better than who I was previously after attending the counseling sessions. I'm very grateful to the counsellor for everything which he has done to help us as we wouldn't have made much progress without him.
