PBS also has a\u00a0strong values base and is a person-centred approach, where its focus is on the individual and his or her unique needs.<\/p>\n<p>It is positive as it enhances and strengthens the helpful and suitable\u00a0behaviours\u2014this gives more focus on the positive behaviours in dealing with challenging\u00a0behaviours. PBS is likewise preventive as it proactively anticipates when things may go wrong\u00a0and avoid it from happening.<\/p>\n<h3>Ten Components of PBS<\/h3>\n<p>These components are divided into <strong>values<\/strong>, <strong>theory<\/strong>, and <strong>process.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><br \/>\n<div  class=\"togglecontainer   toggle_close_all  avia-builder-el-7  el_after_av_textblock  el_before_av_hr \" >\n<section class=\"av_toggle_section\"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\"  >    <div role=\"tablist\" class=\"single_toggle\" data-tags=\"{All} \"  >        <p data-fake-id=\"#toggle-id-1\" class=\"toggler \"  itemprop=\"headline\"    role=\"tab\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"toggle-id-1-container\">Values<span class=\"toggle_icon\" >        <span class=\"vert_icon\"><\/span><span class=\"hor_icon\"><\/span><\/span><\/p>        <div id=\"toggle-id-1-container\" class=\"toggle_wrap \"  >            <div class=\"toggle_content invers-color \"  itemprop=\"text\"   ><ol>\n<li>PBS is about improving the quality of life of the young individual and of those around him or her. It takes place within the context of inclusion and participation in roles valued by\u00a0the community and society as a whole.<\/li>\n<li>PBS works through constructive practices which develop and build skills and not through aversive and restrictive practices.<\/li>\n<li>Practitioners work in partnership with the child or adolescent and those people who are important to him or her, such as family.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n            <\/div>        <\/div>    <\/div><\/section>\n<section class=\"av_toggle_section\"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\"  >    <div role=\"tablist\" class=\"single_toggle\" data-tags=\"{All} \"  >        <p data-fake-id=\"#toggle-id-2\" class=\"toggler \"  itemprop=\"headline\"    role=\"tab\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"toggle-id-2-container\">Theory<span class=\"toggle_icon\" >        <span class=\"vert_icon\"><\/span><span class=\"hor_icon\"><\/span><\/span><\/p>        <div id=\"toggle-id-2-container\" class=\"toggle_wrap \"  >            <div class=\"toggle_content invers-color \"  itemprop=\"text\"   ><ol start=\"4\">\n<li>There is an understanding that all behaviour is for a reason, thus challenging behaviour\u00a0serves a function for the child or adolescent with special needs.<\/li>\n<li>PBS utilises the techniques of applied behaviour analysis, where observable behaviour is objectively analysed to make changes to the challenging behaviours.<\/li>\n<li>Complementary evidence-based approaches may be included in PBS plans to support behaviour change.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n            <\/div>        <\/div>    <\/div><\/section>\n<section class=\"av_toggle_section\"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\"  >    <div role=\"tablist\" class=\"single_toggle\" data-tags=\"{All} \"  >        <p data-fake-id=\"#toggle-id-3\" class=\"toggler \"  itemprop=\"headline\"    role=\"tab\" tabindex=\"0\" aria-controls=\"toggle-id-3-container\">Process<span class=\"toggle_icon\" >        <span class=\"vert_icon\"><\/span><span class=\"hor_icon\"><\/span><\/span><\/p>        <div id=\"toggle-id-3-container\" class=\"toggle_wrap \"  >            <div class=\"toggle_content invers-color \"  itemprop=\"text\"   ><ol start=\"7\">\n<li>PBS is a data-driven approach, where decisions at every stage are based on facts and\u00a0research.<\/li>\n<li>A formal assessment is made to create a clear plan of action.<\/li>\n<li>A PBS plan informs concerned parties what to do to proactively prevent the challenging behaviour from taking place and manage it well reactively if it does.<\/li>\n<li>PBS should ensure the child or adolescent is actively supported in the long term to\u00a0maintain their quality of life.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n            <\/div>        <\/div>    <\/div><\/section>\n<\/div><br \/>\n<div  style=' margin-top:10px; margin-bottom:10px;'  class='hr hr-custom hr-center hr-icon-no   avia-builder-el-8  el_after_av_toggle_container  el_before_av_textblock '><span class='hr-inner   inner-border-av-border-thin' style=' width:30px;' ><span class='hr-inner-style'><\/span><\/span><\/div><br \/>\n<section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><h2 style=\"margin-bottom: 20px;\">Our Services<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Conducting a Functional Behaviour Assessment (FBA) during the initial session, and\u00a0delivery of an FBA report<\/li>\n<li>Providing a Behaviour Support Plan (BSP) based on the initial assessment<\/li>\n<li>Employing behavioural strategies during sessions with both the child and the parent<\/li>\n<li>Monitoring and evaluating the child\u2019s progress based on the BSP by the PBS practitioner<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/section><br \/>\n<div  style=' margin-top:10px; margin-bottom:10px;'  class='hr hr-custom hr-center hr-icon-no   avia-builder-el-10  el_after_av_textblock  el_before_av_textblock '><span class='hr-inner   inner-border-av-border-thin' style=' width:30px;' ><span class='hr-inner-style'><\/span><\/span><\/div><br \/>\n<section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><h2 style=\"margin-bottom: 20px;\">Process of Positive Behaviour Support<\/h2>\n<p>The PBS practitioner will conduct an initial assessment of the child\u2019s behaviour profile. An\u00a0investigation of the child\u2019s challenging behaviours through data collection will be done and the\u00a0information will be reviewed to know the function of the behaviours. The strengths and abilities, quality of life, and needs for support will also be assessed to help identify which services may\u00a0be helpful in the child\u2019s situation.<\/p>\n<p>The process of the Functional Behaviour Assessment includes:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Interview with the Parents or Caregiver<\/li>\n<li>Observation of the Child<\/li>\n<li>Completion of assessment tools such as the Challenging Behaviour Attributions Scale (CHABA), Disability Distress Assessment Tool, and other instruments<\/li>\n<li>Review of reports provided by other professionals such as doctor, psychologist, school\u00a0teacher, child care teacher, or other therapists.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The PBS practitioner will then create a Behaviour Support Plan (BPS) based on the initial assessment.\u00a0The BPS will include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Setting event strategies and antecedent strategies<\/li>\n<li>Behaviour teaching strategies, i.e. replacement skills<\/li>\n<li>Consequence strategies, e.g. reinforcement<\/li>\n<li>Safety plan in case of emergency behaviour management<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The behaviour strategies included in the plan will be employed during sessions with both the\u00a0parent and the child.
