Comorbidity refers to the situation where an individual is affected by two or more<\/strong> distinct conditions, disorders or illnesses [1<\/a>], with one condition at the focus<\/strong><\/span>. These conditions may or may not<\/strong> interact with one another. For example, someone may first being diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder, and then depression later on. It is important to note that this situation is not<\/strong> the same as a\u00a0 \u2018complication\u2019, which is a separate<\/strong> effect or problem occurring after<\/strong> the primary condition was diagnosed.
