But for some people, emotions can feel intense, unpredictable, or difficult to manage \u2014 swinging quickly, staying for too long, or arriving in ways that feel out of proportion to the situation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">Difficulties with emotional regulation can look like:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"[li_&amp;]:mb-0 [li_&amp;]:mt-1 [li_&amp;]:gap-1 [&amp;:not(:last-child)_ul]:pb-1 [&amp;:not(:last-child)_ol]:pb-1 list-disc flex flex-col gap-1 pl-8 mb-3\">\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words pl-2\"><strong>Intense emotional reactions<\/strong> \u2013 Feeling emotions very strongly, or finding that small triggers lead to responses that feel bigger than you intended<\/li>\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words pl-2\"><strong>Difficulty calming down<\/strong> \u2013 Staying in a heightened emotional state long after the triggering moment has passed<\/li>\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words pl-2\"><strong>Impulsive behaviour<\/strong> \u2013 Acting, speaking, or making decisions in the heat of the moment in ways you later regret<\/li>\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words pl-2\"><strong>Emotional shutdown<\/strong> \u2013 On the other end of the spectrum, feeling emotionally numb, disconnected, or unable to access your feelings at all<\/li>\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words pl-2\"><strong>Mood instability<\/strong> \u2013 Experiencing significant shifts in mood that are hard to predict or explain<\/li>\n<li class=\"whitespace-normal break-words pl-2\"><strong>Difficulty in relationships<\/strong> \u2013 Finding that emotional reactions create friction with the people around you, even when that&#8217;s not what you want<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">Struggles with emotional regulation are not a character flaw or a sign of weakness. They are often deeply connected to past experiences, nervous system responses, and patterns learned early in life as a way of coping.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">At Singapore Counselling Centre, our counsellors work with you to better understand your emotional patterns, identify what&#8217;s driving them, and develop practical skills to respond rather than react.
