Subsequently, it received a mix of responses from both employees and employers. On one hand, some view it as a way of safeguarding employee mental health, claiming it to be an <strong>antidote to \u201chustle culture\u201d<\/strong>. On the other hand, some believe it to be a rather <strong>emotional response<\/strong> that can affect one\u2019s professional development and display of work ethics.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But what exactly is quiet quitting? Is this act ideal in countering the dangers of hustle culture?<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>\n<div  style='padding-bottom:10px; ' class='av-special-heading av-special-heading-h2    avia-builder-el-2  el_after_av_textblock  el_before_av_textblock  '><h2 class='av-special-heading-tag '  itemprop=\"headline\"  ><span class='special_amp'>\u201c<\/span>Quiet Quitting<span class='special_amp'>\u201d<\/span> in Singapore context<\/h2><div class='special-heading-border'><div class='special-heading-inner-border' ><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cQuiet quitting\u201d is an attitude of sticking closely only to what is required in the job scope and completing the <strong>bare minimum<\/strong>. Oftentimes, employees adopt the attitude to \u201cquit\u201d the cycle of overworking and overtime, a common aspect of Singapore\u2019s <strong>hustle culture<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a 2019 study done by tech company Kisi, it was found that Singapore is known to have long work hours such that we are ranked<strong> second most overworked country<\/strong> among 40 cities [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.todayonline.com\/singapore\/singapore-ranks-32-out-40-work-life-balance-second-most-overworked-city\">2<\/a>]. <strong>73%<\/strong> of Singaporean employees are unhappy with our 45 hours work week, with <strong>62%<\/strong> feeling burnt out [<a href=\"https:\/\/sbr.com.sg\/hr-education\/in-focus\/singapore-named-most-overworked-country-in-apac\">3<\/a>].<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>\n<div  style='padding-bottom:10px; ' class='av-special-heading av-special-heading-h2    avia-builder-el-4  el_after_av_textblock  el_before_av_textblock  '><h2 class='av-special-heading-tag '  itemprop=\"headline\"  >Reasons people <span class='special_amp'>\u201c<\/span>quiet quit<span class='special_amp'>\u201d<\/span><\/h2><div class='special-heading-border'><div class='special-heading-inner-border' ><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Individuals find themselves \u201cquiet quitting\u201d for reasons such as:<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>\n<div class=\"flex_column av_one_half  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-6  el_after_av_textblock  el_before_av_one_half  column-top-margin\" style='border-radius:0px; '><p><div  style='padding-bottom:10px; ' class='av-special-heading av-special-heading-h3    avia-builder-el-7  el_before_av_textblock  avia-builder-el-first  '><h3 class='av-special-heading-tag '  itemprop=\"headline\"  >Frustration with heavy workloads over long periods of time<\/h3><div class='special-heading-border'><div class='special-heading-inner-border' ><\/div><\/div><\/div><br \/>\n<section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p>We may be frustrated from receiving too much work from our employers,\u00a0but we may find it <strong>difficult to communicate<\/strong> that with our employers, often because of the <strong>apparent gap<\/strong> between employers and employees. Consequently, we find ourselves <strong>defining our worth by our level of productivity<\/strong>. Despite employers having <strong>good intentions<\/strong> to improve employee mental health, we may not know the <strong>appropriate<\/strong> compromise for both parties even after opening up discussions about boundaries.
