Career Transitions
Work takes up a significant part of our lives — which means that when something shifts in our career, it rarely stays contained to just the professional side of things. It spills into our sense of identity, our relationships, our finances, and our sense of who we are.
Career transitions can be chosen or unchosen, exciting or deeply unsettling — and often both at the same time.
You may be navigating:
- Redundancy or retrenchment – Losing a job unexpectedly, and dealing with the financial stress, loss of routine, and knock to your confidence that can follow
- Voluntary career change – Wanting to leave a role or industry but feeling uncertain, guilty, or unsure of what comes next
- Re-entering the workforce – Returning to work after a career break, caregiving period, or time away, and feeling out of place or behind
- Promotion or new leadership role – Stepping into greater responsibility and finding the pressure harder to manage than expected
- Reaching a crossroads – Feeling stuck, unfulfilled, or disconnected from your work but not knowing what change looks like
- Retirement or winding down – Adjusting to a shift in identity and structure that comes with leaving work behind
Career transitions often bring up deeper questions — about purpose, worth, direction, and what really matters. These aren’t questions that a career coach or a job portal can always answer.
Counselling provides a space to slow down, make sense of what you’re feeling, and approach the transition with greater clarity and self-awareness. At Singapore Counselling Centre, our counsellors can help you work through both the practical and emotional dimensions of change — so you move forward with intention, not just momentum.
