Anixety and Worry

Everyone experiences anxiety from time to time — before a big presentation, a difficult conversation, or an uncertain life change. But when worry becomes persistent, overwhelming, or begins to interfere with daily life, it may be a sign that something more is going on.

Anxiety can show up differently for each person. Some common experiences include:

  • Excessive worry – Finding it hard to switch off from anxious thoughts, even when you know the concern may be unlikely or out of proportion
  • Physical symptoms – A racing heart, tightness in the chest, shortness of breath, disturbed sleep, or fatigue that doesn’t seem to have a clear cause
  • Avoidance – Steering clear of situations, places, or people that trigger anxious feelings, which can gradually shrink your world
  • Overthinking – Replaying past events or anticipating worst-case scenarios, often at the expense of being present in day-to-day life
  • Social anxiety – Feeling intense self-consciousness or fear of judgement in social or performance situations

Anxiety is one of the most common reasons people seek counselling — and it is also one of the most responsive to support. At Singapore Counselling Centre, our counsellors work with you to understand what’s driving your anxiety and help you develop practical tools to manage it. Approaches may include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based strategies, and other evidence-informed methods tailored to your needs.

You don’t have to stay stuck in the cycle of worry. Help is available
