Frequently-Asked Questions (FAQs)

Relationship counselling can assist with communication difficulties, trust issues, conflict resolution, intimacy concerns, managing life transitions, infidelity, family dynamics, and more. Our counsellors are here to support you through various challenges and guide you toward healthier interactions.

If you’re experiencing frequent conflicts, feeling disconnected, or struggling to communicate effectively, relationship counselling can help. It provides a safe space to address concerns, explore feelings, and develop skills to strengthen your relationship.

Couples therapy is not recommended in certain situations, or is contraindicated, when there is –

Abuse: Physical, emotional, financial, sexual, or psychological abuse is present. Abuse can be continued in couples therapy, and the abuser may be able to use the therapist’s words against the victim in court.
Active mental illness: One or both partners have an active or untreated mental illness, disorder, or addiction.
Infidelity: One or both partners are actively unfaithful and unwilling to end the relationship.
Threat of divorce: One or both partners have decided to separate or divorce.
Insufficient motivation: One or both partners lack the motivation to change their behavior or relationship.
Uncontrolled emotions: One or both partners have an unmanaged panic disorder, impulse disorder, or ADHD.
Psychotic symptoms: One or both partners have psychotic symptoms.

A careful assessment can help determine if couple therapy is appropriate for a particular situation. There are also specialized treatments for some of these issues, such as infidelity and substance use disorders

While it’s ideal if both partners attend, we understand that may not always be possible. Individual sessions can still be beneficial in gaining insights, developing coping strategies, and learning relationship skills that can positively impact the relationship.
