Understanding my Anxiety better which helped in my Marriage
My Wife and I encountered several issues which we cannot resolve, and were on the verge of calling the marriage even with her being pregnant. We decided to give counselling a try and it can be considered our last attempt to salvage our marriage.
We met Emily in early Apr 2019. Initially, the first few sessions felt slow but was all about creating awareness. Being aware of underlying issues but not knowing how to deal with it can be frustrating for both of us. In addition, the counselling sessions can be considered not cheap. However, I kept faith and we pushed on with Emily. Eventually, she taught us some good tools to deal with our conflicts, and also gave us insights on how to focus on each others’ strengths and taught us how to understand each others’ feelings better.
She was really patient with us throughout and I could tell she would do her best to help us. I knew it was her job but I was grateful that she was there as a mediator, offered her listening ears and brainstormed to help us understand each other.
Other than helping the both of us, she helped me to better understand myself and be aware of my anxiety. With that awareness, I could then work on how to manage it. Mitigating my anxiety is a long-term plan which will also indirectly help to better manage my emotions in the marriage.
All in all, both of us are thankful that the counselling sessions worked for us, and Emily has made a difference in our life.
