Brainspotting and EMDR
I have had positive responses with brainspotting and EMDR as part of my therapy.
The first time I tried EMDR was to deal with the episodes of intense anxiety after a breakup. During the session, I could feel the anxiety leaving my body. After the first session, I could feel that my anxiety level has significantly reduced and it was a lot easy to cope.
EMDR also helped me in overcoming my PTSD after a car accident. I couldn’t drive for many months after my car accident as I became hyper-vigilant of potential threats on the road. I was stressed and overwhelmed. My therapist, Angie, used EMDR to help me “re-wire” my memory; I was able to re-visit the moment the car accident happens, but this time around with the awareness of how I’ll do things differently. This awareness helped me to take some control of my life back. I was able to drive confidently after that.
Before starting Brainspotting therapy, I had low self-esteem. Through Brainspotting, I was able to process some unpleasant past experiences and see them in a new light. The reflections allow me to develop empathy for my younger self, which helps me to move on from past hurts and traumas. I always feel more positive about the outlook of life after the sessions.
I feel that keeping an open mind and trusting both the process and counsellor are reasons why EMDR and Brainspotting have worked so well for me.
